Alsarah and Captain Planet Get Retro Futuristic on “Ghazal”

We’re still in that sultry season of summer, so why not a sultry tune from Alsarah and Captain Planet? “Ghazal” comes to us from canonical Persian love poetry and translates to “beloved.” Against a backdrop of plodding electronic drums and wriggling synth lines, Sudanese-American singer/songwriter Alsarah pledges “a love without pain” to her ghazal.

The track has got a cool, retro-futuristic video as well, which you can check out right here:

Proving that, whether she’s star of the show with her band the Nubatones or lending her talents to another artist as in the Nile Project, Alsarah has poise to spare. This single delivers on the promising early sounds from Captain Planet’s new record No Visa, out now on Bastard Jazz.
