Best of The Beat on Afropop: Thomas Mapfumo 1984

Inspired by this week’s encore presentation of Afropop Worldwide’s program on Thomas Mapfumo, as well as by current events surrounding the resignation of Zimbabwe’s leader Robert Mugabe after 37 years, "Best of The Beat on Afropop" brings you a glimpse of Thomas Mapfumo in 1984, just four years after Zimbabwe’s victorious war against and independence from Britain.
In an interview with London-based Beat correspondent Charles De Ledesma during Mapfumo’s triumphant U.K. debut, they discuss the impact of the liberation war on music, politics and society.
