Feature: Baaba Maal Acoustic--Live in New York

As we return to one of the great live Afropop recordings--Baaba Maal performing an intimate acoustic show here in New York--we're taking the opportunity to revisit the remarkable career of the master chameleon of West African pop.

Baaba Maal established himself in the '90s with a prolific run of hit records. In more recent years, Baaba has recorded more sparingly, making each new album a major event for his fans. His latest album, Television, came out all the way back in 2009. Here is the Afropop review from Senior Editor Banning Eyre:

His sparse recording history over the past decade is no indication that Baaba Maal has slowed down. We caught him in superb form at Dakar's World Black Arts Festival in 2011. Check out his performance as part of our program on that festival:
