Job Opportunity: Director of New Media and Operations
Afropop Worldwide is a Peabody Award-winning, nationally distributed public radio program on air continuously since 1988 and an active Web magazine (afropop.org) that uses music to explore the history and culture of Africa and the African diaspora. The media organization is looking for a full-time Director of New Media and Operations. Working in a small, intense production environment with our veteran staff, the person will be responsible for both organizing and managing the day-to-day flow of operations, as well managing our digital production (radio programs, podcasts, occasional video projects). This includes overseeing production schedules, running social media accounts, writing for/editing our website, sending programs to radio stations, working with and managing our team of staff writers to develop new content, hiring and training interns, conducting outreach to connect with new audiences at events and concerts, working with our bookkeeper and accountant, billing and invoicing and general tech troubleshooting. Must have writing and editing experience. Knowledge of music of Africa and the African diaspora is important. A general knowledge of the public radio environment is desirable, as is experience with WordPress, CMS, FTPs, banner ad placements, MailChimp and sponsored social media posts. Knowledge of QuickBooks is also ideal. Among the benefits: a front-row seat on the progress of the world’s coolest music.
