Join Afropop for Finding Fela's Portland Film Premiere

On Thurs., Nov. 6, one of music’s greatest stories is coming to one of America’s hippest cities. And as with so many things great and hip, Afropop is involved! Finding Fela, the documentary exploring the life and legacy of Afrobeat’s creator, is making its Portland, Oregon premiere and all proceeds will be going to support the work of Afropop Worldwide. Although you may already be familiar with Fela’s game-changing musical innovation and fierce political activism, Finding Fela provides an opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of Fela’s legacy. And really who couldn’t use another chance to hear “Shuffering and Shmiling”? The film was directed by Alex Gibney, who won an Academy Award for his 2008 documentary, Taxi to the Dark Side.

For $35 ($40 at the door), you get, not just Fela, but tacos (generously donated by ¿Por Qué No? Taqueria), beer and wine. Sound like a good time? We think so. If you find yourself in the Pacific Northwest, join us at the North Star Ballroom! You can RSVP here and check out the trailer below:
