Kinté Unleashes the Hook-Laden “Papa”

Looking for a little Friday release? Then look no further than the newest from Kinté, Le Prince Héritier.

Born Deguet Koné, the New York-based rapper and songwriter has roots in Cote D’Ivoire. At just 22, he is forging his own musical path, straddling two worlds. His latest single, “Papa,” continues his work from his latest EP, Ascension: Le Chemin Vers Mes Racines (Ascension: The Path Towards My Roots), exploring his faith over an Afrobeat-inspired rhythm. The song builds on an upbeat pounding bass that Kinté’s vocals nimble skip over before opening up in the warm, reverb-rich “Papa.” The video, by Ibrahim Ba Keïta, follows Kinté from the heart of Times Square to a sun-soaked rooftop under a boundless sky.
