Pape Diouf Returns to Harlem!
Back by popular demand, Pape Cheikh Diouf, the Senegalese Wolof singer, returns to Harlem’s Alhambra Ballroom on Fri., Aug. 12. This newly announced performance rounds off Diouf’s 2016 North American tour. Pape Diouf is one of the top mbalax musicians in the world today, mixing Western and Latin music influences with sabar drum beats. In this concert, Diouf will be accompanied by La Génération Conciente, the band that has backed him for most of his solo career, and on this year's entire North American tour. The Aug. 12 performance will be a reprise of Diouf’s earlier July 9 concert at the Alhambra, which kicked off his North American tour. That jam-packed three-hour show was described as “more like an impromptu party than a concert,” and attendees can expect another immersive experience this time around. You can find more details about this concert and RSVP at New African Production’s Facebook event for Senegal Day.
