Sonia M'Barek Ticket Giveaway!
Renowned Tunisian singer Sonia M’Barek is performing tomorrow night (Friday, May 8) at the French Institute/Alliance Française (FIAF). M’Barek is a master of traditional Tunisian maluf and muwashshah, the Andalusian style of short poetic verses.  This is gorgeous music with a deep and fascinating history, dating back to the period of Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultural exchange in Spain. For more on that history, check out our Hip Deep program, “The Musical Legacy of Al Andalus, Part 2: Africa and Beyond.” M’Barek will be joined by virtuoso nay performer Bassam Saba and his Ensemble, and Tunisian qanun player Slim Jaziri. If this sounds like something you’d like to check out, you may be in luck! Afropop has a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky winner. Also, the FIAF has generously offered a $20 discount offer to all Afropop readers, by using the code NOMADS. To enter the contest, send us an email to info@afropop.org with the subject “Sonia M’Barek Tickets.”
