Vieux Farka Toure live at Elebash hall (Ticket Giveaway)
Longtime Afropop readers/listeners (or really, come to think of it, ANY Afropop readers/listeners) probably know that we have long had a soft spot for Vieux Farka Toure. Son of the legendary Malian guitarist Ali Farka Toure, Vieux has charted his own path, embracing an electric, cutting style that expands on the calmer, more acoustic music of his father. However, as an element of  his own artistic development and as reaction to his nation's terrible political crisis, Vieux has returned to a style closer to his roots, and Mon Pays, his latest album, is a tribute to the power of this new approach. Vieux will be bringing his three piece band to the CUNY Graduate Center's Elebash recital hall on Tuesday, Oct 29th, and Afropop is giving away a pair of tickets to the performance. For a chance to win them, just email info@afropop.org with the subject heading Vieux. And if you aren't THAT lucky, you're still able to buy tickets. More info on that HERE. While the concert starts at 7:30, we'd like to note that there will be a pre-show discussion with Vieux starting at 5:30. Definitely not something to miss!
