The stream kicks off with a recent gem, "Singing The Situation: Zimbabwe 2001". This program explores political expression through music in the tenuous situation that belies modern-day Zimbabwe. Next is another, older classic- "The Soul Of Mbira", featuring a select group of mbira recordings and interviews with Paul Berliner and others.
After that, it's on to South Africa, where we offer three classic shows focusing on various aspects of that storied nation's musical heritage. "South African Jazz Revival" explores the re-emergence of that classic genre after a 30-year disappearance. "South African Update" and "What's The Word from Johannesburg?" offer looks into some of the best music that emerged in South Africa's recent past, ranging from reggae to pop and jazz and beyond.
For those of you wondering why Madagascar isn't included here-- well, we like Malagasy music so much we gave it its own stream.
