Central Park's SummerStage delivered again with a wonderful afternoon of African music, both of the homegrown and foreign varieties. The music started with a rousing performance from the local Zozo Afrobeat, whose energy matched their magnitude as the multi-member ensemble kept the audience dancing. Next up was Fallou Dieng, who towered over the crowd, dressed all in white, sermonizing eloquently all the while. His band's extensive percussion section, led by the otherworldly noises of the talking drum, was a sight to behold. Finally, Vieux Farka Touré, the son of the legend, took the stage. The band was smooth and versatile, alternating between faster paced rockers and slowed down grooves. Vieux himself was an oasis of calm in the middle of the torrent generated by his band, picking out his guitar parts effortlessly while observing the crowd with an expression of contented serenity.
