This page of links is a work in progress to extend the
Afropop community to include the world's youth, linking individuals and
organizations interested in cultural exchange programs, social/political/environmental/human
rights advocacy, youth culture and world music, university programs etc
etc. If you have any suggestions of

CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Intercultural Youth Exchange: www.icye.co.uk
This UK based network provides work
abroad opportunities for 18-30 year olds for six months to one year. Projects
include working in schools, hospitals, farms, orphanages, with women, elderly,
the environment and others. The countries involved are Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana
in Africa; India, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and New Zealand in Asia; Bolivia,
Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Mexico in Latin America; and Austria,
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Spain and Sweden in Europe.
Language abilities or work skills are not required.

With over 5000 clubs in 120
countries, this non-profit organization provides volunteer opportunities for
"young people and adults." Activities include the study of human rights
documents, the promotion of literacy, environmental conservation and
preservation of cultural heritage. UNESCO supports individuals in creating a work/study
camp in their community.

ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS
The Carter Center: www.cartercenter.org
The Carter Center is a US based
human rights, health and global nurturing organization established by Jimmy
Carter in 1989. Examples of its projects include: The promotion of democracy by
monitoring elections in "unstable" countries; the promotion of global development
through financial loans and advising and sharing expertise; helping with
conflict resolution hosting talks between world leaders and experts; and aiding
African agriculture by assisting with the production, technology and security
in Sub-Saharan Africa. Health, ethical business, and inter-American relations
are also areas of the Carter Center's work.

Amnesty has long worked to defend
human rights and the cultural autonomy of indigenous peoples and ethnic
minorities. A few projects include aid to Afghan refugees in Pakistan, the
Center for Andean Ethnomusicology in Peru, the Efe Medical Project in Mali, the
Higanon Tribal Agro-Forestry Technology project in the Philippines, the Suya
(people) Project in Brazil, and the Kasiisi/Kanyawara School Building Project
in Uganda.

The main objective of this
organization is the stemming of international arms flows in hopes of
eradicating wars. The Fund for Peace works with NGO's in Europe, African, USA,
and the UN corporations to advance human rights and help leaders with conflict
preventative diplomacy.

Nomoreprisons.org is the homepage
of the prison moratorium project, which, in its own words is "a multiracial
grassroots organization of youth activists" working and strategizing to resist
and fight the Prison Industrial Complex and the racist War on Drugs through
political education, community based partnership, youth organizing and direct
action.

Even more relevant with the current
military tribunals that are taking place today, the ICC aims to establish a
global judicial institution to try individual criminals in a court that works
in coordination with national legal systems. The organizations activities
include the facilitation of meeting between coalitions and governmental
representatives, the UN and others involved in the ICC, dialogues, teach ins,
educational conferences, and the publication of various newsletters and other
publications.

Cal Berkley

This is the UC Berkley chapter of
a national organization, the goals of which are the cultivation of tolerance
and communities. The Berkley chapter focuses on providing housing for
low-income community members.
Reflejos de

This is a dance group composed of
Berkley, and is open to community members. Through the performance of
traditional Mexican dances, this group hopes to educate UC Berkley and the
surrounding community about Mexico's rich culture.

This organization is founded and
led by UC Berkeley African music program director CK Ladzekpo, who is himself a
master performer, composer, choreographer, drummer and teacher. The ensemble
provides African drum and dance workshops for the Bay Area community. There are
5 classes for ages five and up, including introductory, beginning, intermediate
and advanced levels.

this campus group carries the tradition of the Afro-Brazilian dance/martial art

Chicano

performance of traditional art, music, dance and theatre, this club aims to
raise awareness of the issues pertaining to, and the culture of Chicano/Mexican

paper that deals with issues regarding students of color. The paper is
available to U Wisconsin students and the surrounding community.
Hip

Hip Hop is a movement whose

club aims to educate and entertain the campus and surrounding community by
