AfroJam: Jan. 7 at Mist in NYC
This Sat., Jan. 7, Mist, on West 116th St. in Manhattan, is hosting a lineup of up-and-coming artists from Africa and the diaspora as part of the AfroJam Music Conference. Doors open at 7 p.m. The evening's lineup reaches from the Caribbean to the continent, from West Africa to East, and goes nearly as far stylistically.
Admiral T hails from Guadeloupe, and has two albums of pan-Caribbean music under his belt.
Singer-songwriter and percussionist Élage Diouf was born in Senegal and has been working from Canada for two decades now.
Naomi Wachira brings her soulful and charming music all the way from Kenya.
New York-By-Way-of-Kinshasa's Nkumu Katalay and the Life Long Project Band is no stranger to AfroJam, returning for a second consecutive year.
There will also be sets from DJ Dakar and Damien Rich, who splits his time between the U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago.
