Afro-Latino Festival in New York
Adding to the embarrassment of riches that is New York City's summer music programming is the third annual Afro-Latino Festival, a three-day series of concerts and events held in various locations throughout the city, kicking off Fri., July 10. The rich program on offer includes a fancy gala evening of salsa and Latin jazz featuring incredible Cuban singer Danay Suarez, a sweaty Que Bajo?! dance party in Bushwick, plus panel discussions on culture, technology and Afrolatinidad and documentary screenings. It's a stellar lineup that's as broad as it is deep, and promises to do a pretty decent job showcasing the wealth of Afro-Latin culture here in New York. Tickets start at $15, and a whole weekend pass is $100, which is a lot of bang for your buck, not to mention that some of the individual events are free.
