It is with great pleasure and excitement that Afropop Worldwide premiers the new Cairo Liberation Front mix, Paint It Black.
Cairo Liberation Front have made a name for themselves by calling attention to the explosive Electro Chaabi scene that grew out of the Cairo suburb of Salam City. The Dutch DJ collective have become the premier curators of Electro Chaabi outside of Egypt by participating in the same peer-to-peer filing swapping that gave birth to the Electro Chaabi scene, and by visiting Egypt to investigate the musicians who have crafted this new sound. The crew has put Electro Chaabi on the radar of countless fans and journalist all over the world, and now they've shared the love with us with this exclusive new mix.
Every tape that CLF drops seems to be better than the last, and this one's no exception. Paint It Black is cinematic, seductive, hypnotic, and made of pure adrenaline. Best of all, this mix is not the only treat that CLF have in store for Afropop fans. As part of an on-going series on the Electro Chaabi sound, we've got a couple more exclusives coming at you. Next week we'll be sharing an essay from Joost of the Cairo Liberation Front on his relationship with the music and musicians the group has worked so hard to promote. After that we'll bring you an in-depth interview with Sadat and Alaa Fifty Cent, two big men of the Electro Chaabi movement.
