Alhousseini Anivolla: Niger Desert Blues Goes Solo
Looks like Niger has done it again. A new track from Niger-born desert blues guitar player Alhousseini Anivolla has hit the web and it’s excellent. Known as the singer and guitarist in Etran Finatawa, Anivolla is prepping the release of a forthcoming solo album Anewal/The Walking Man via Riverboat Records on August 13th. The song titled “Imoussanan” is a sprawling, energetic track clocking in well over the five-plus minute. A cyclical groove hits and Anivolla locks in with his exceptional guitar chops resulting in an ecstatic, hypnotic state of classic Niger desert Tuareg blues. Anivolla has also recently released a video for the song “Imadanan Id'Madiaka” which discusses common disputes between farmers and nomadic shepherds over land in Niger, an issue causing divisions that are fracturing society. In the track, Alhousseini urges the groups to work together towards peace in hopes of advancing the Niger economy. http://youtu.be/1zfgQG3-TdY You can purchase the new record via World Music Network.
