Amayo, the former frontman of Antibalas and a key figure in bringing Afrobeat to global audiences, will announce his debut solo album tomorrow AM: Lion Awakes will be released Jan 17. Drawing from his Nigerian Edo heritage and Kung Fu practice, the 5-track album blends Afrobeat rhythms with stories that connect African and Chinese traditions.

The first single, “Black Magic Sister,” is described by Amayo as being “about offering Blessings for an abundant mindset. It’s also a prayer for twins and a wish for those who lost close ones.”
