DJ Satélite has a new single out in Enchufada's Upper Cuts free downloads series. We featured DJ Satélite a while back in our Hip Deep Angola show. The Luanda-born producer is one of the major figures bringing Angolan dance music into clubs around the world. Recently he's been putting together more laid-back mixes, more in the direction of Afro-house and with more melodic elements, but on "Avacahlo," he's back to his roots with some straight-up kuduro. The track is stripped down to its core elements: very little melody and sparse, relentless beats. Satélite deploys a subtle palette of percussive textures to mesmerizing effect. It's both sinister and super danceable, as the best kuduro should be. Enjoy!
