Springtime Soca Mix from DJ Chibuikem
Take note: Soca's not just for Carnival anymore. Although this mix from New York-based DJ Chibuikem weaves together the highlights of this year's Carnival in Trinidad, it's fit for any kind of festive occasion. Soca is a genre that's firmly rooted in a time (Carnival) and a place (Trinidad) but this year, it seems poised to make an international breakout.
This mix is certainly soca through and through, but it manages to showcase the diversity of the genre, flowing smoothly between intense club-style anthems and more mellow, groove-centric tracks. It's nearly April, but here in New York, spring hasn't really sprung--maybe this mix is just what we need to warm things up.
