Celebrate Giving Tuesday With Afropop Worldwide!
Thanksgiving’s over. And as Black Friday has gradually transformed itself into a three-day weekend, and Cyber Monday keeps the shopping frenzy going, we do think that things can sometimes get a bit unbalanced. And THAT is why we are so pleased to participate in this year's #GivingTuesday campaign. Started last year by an ever-growing coalition of non-profits, #GivingTuesday asks people to take a minute, consider the organizations, institutions, and individuals whose work makes a real difference in their lives, and then give them some thanks by:
  • re-tweet an organization #GivingTuesday tweets
  • Doing a shoutout or a share on Facebook
  • Sending a friendly email (or sending a friend some email)
  • Supporting an organization through
By expressing support for the nonprofits that do so much to enrich cultural and community life throughout the U.S., you can help create a wave of awareness. Non-profits do so much with so little- Show them some support! Over the past 25 years, Afropop Worldwide has provided an essential service on America's airwaves, and over the past 15, an equally exceptional one online. Bridging the gap between Afropop listeners across the U.S. and some of the world's most astounding musical cultures, Afropop has explored musical worlds, based on our original research everywhere from Mali and South Africa to Brazil, New Orleans, Egypt, Congo,  and our home base  New York. We've introduced listeners to Afropop icons such as Youssou N’Dour, Angelique Kidjo, Franco, Khaled, Oumou Sangare, Gilberto Gil, and many others. Over the past ten years, the National Endowment for the Humanities has funded our Hip Deep series, which has allowed producers to work closely with leading scholars, building off of cutting edge research and creating a large and compelling body of work. For #GivingTuesday, we are asking Afropop fans to stand up and show your support. If you would like to do that monetarily, we would be honored to accept any and all donations HERE. If you would like join the #GivingTuesday movement and spread the word not just about Afropop, but nonprofits in general, please share this post as widely as possible on social media. Use the #GivingTuesday hashtag. If you want, share WHY Afropop matters to you, how you found out about us, and how the music that we feature has impacted you. Go for it! Nothing beats a personal story. Everyone at Afropop works because we love it, and because we believe in the unique way music connects you to the world. On this #GivingTuesday please help us spread it even further. Thank you!
