Fatoumata Diawara Announces North American Tour
After taking in Minnesota and New York earlier in the year, Malian superstar Fatoumata Diawara returns to North America in August for a string of summer festival dates. A tireless and passionate performer with a commanding onstage presence, Fatou—as she is affectionately known to her fans—has gone from strength to strength since the release of her eponymous debut release, playing shows across Europe and the Americas, as well as starring in Abderrahmane Sissako’s critically acclaimed epic, Timbuktu. The Paris-based singer’s gorgeous blend of Wassoulou folk and Malian pop-rock has garnered her a loyal and unusually diverse fan base that is sure to make its presence known this summer. Diawara and her band play the Edmonton Folk Festival in Canada on Aug. 4, before making their way down the West Coast, with a sole date in Wisconsin sandwiched in the middle.
