Fidel Castro and the Africa Connection
On Fri., Nov. 25 news came that Fidel Castro, a uniquely controversial, divisive and important historical figure, had passed. We look back to a pivotal time in Castro's life when Cuba was heavily involved in the Angolan civil war that Afropop producer Ned Sublette reported on in our Hip Deep program "Angola 4: The Cuban Intervention in Angola." We hear the voices of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara and how Cuba's intervention in Angola impacted various African independence movements, including the eventual downfall of the apartheid regime in South Africa.
