Listen: New Track From Seu Jorge and Rogê

Heir to Brazil's MPB crown and famed Bowie interpreter, Seu Jorge is returning with a new album, tour and collaborator. Although Seu Jorge & Rogê Night Dreamer Direct-to-Disc Sessions doesn't come out until Feb. 2, 2020, you can hear the track “Pra Você Amigo” right now:

Thanks to a memorable turn in the film A Life Aquatic, Jorge enjoys some fame in America. His long-time friend and first-time recording companion, Rogê, isn't as well known, but he has recorded seven albums and was nominated for a 2015 Latin Grammy.

Their new album was recorded over two days in August at Artone Studio, Haarlem, The Netherlands—from “concept to completion,” the whole “direct-to-disc” session is only supposed to take four days, although Rogê and Jorge wrote one of the songs on the album together more than 20 years ago.

The album doesn't feel rushed or undercooked; it's delightfully off-the-cuff. Rogê's higher voice is a delightful counterweight to Jorge's deeper baritone.

The duo plays at The Town Hall in Manhattan on Jan. 16 as part of Winter Jazzfest. Consider our calendars marked.
