Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music is one of the best world music presenters in the city and for 2017 they are holding nothing back. On Jan. 20, Old Town School hosted a World Music Party featuring DJ Bashert and Angel D’Cuba, a former lead singer with Cuban group Mezcal. This February’s Global Music Party will feature Planeta Azul, a collection of artists led by Luciano Antonio, performing original interpretations of Brazilian classics with the Passistas Samba Dancers. Keep your eye on their website for even more world-renowned artists in upcoming months, like the 50-year celebration of the all-male South African a cappella group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Dobet Gnahoré, Ivorian vocalist and dancer who has often been compared to the likes of “Lauryn Hill…India.Arie and…Erykah Badu” (St. Louis American) will also be part of the February lineup.
