According to Perdito Martinez, Cuban music in New York ain't what it used to be. "[It] used to be better when I came from Cuba in 1998." he says, "Way better ... Back then you had this club, and like 10 more right next to this one with different orchestras, and groups and everybody used to go from one club to the other, it was crazy." But things do seem to be looking up. Martinez and his band are now in residence at Subrosa, and there are a few other spots around town that he recommends if your looking for a fun place to hear live Cuban music.
