Premiere: "Made in Tribu Baharú"
Colombian champeta group Tribu Baharú first came to our attention when they took the stage at Webster Hall in New York for globalFest in January 2016. The six-piece group pushed the audience to extremes of dance mania over the course of their fiery set, which we captured in our globalFest 2016 program. On the show, we hear a live version of the group's tune "Pa' Tras," and discover how Tribu Baharú takes inspiration from Congolese music and the champeta pico sound system culture for their ferocious live set.
Since we obviously love Tribu Baharú, and champeta more generally, we are particularly excited to premiere an advance stream of Made in Tribu Baharú, a special limited-edition 7” 45 rpm Record Store Day release from Washington, D.C.-based label Electric Cowbell Records, available in physical record stores only on April 22. Until then, you can get your dance on digitally with the two tracks, "Made in Tribu Baharú," and "Pa' Tras."
