Jean Kidula is an Assistant Professor at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music University of Georgia.  She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California (1998), an M.M. from East Carolina University, and a B.Ed. from Nairobi University. She joined the University of Georgia in 1998 after having taught at Kenyatta University and Pomona College.  She teaches African Music, African-American Music, a Survey of Music Cultures of the World, and ethnomusicology history and theory. Her research interests include the musicology of Kenya, traditional and popular music in Africa, gospel music in Africa and Sweden, African-American religious music, and composition in Africa. She also is active in the performance of gospel music, African choral music, and other European classical choral repertory.  She is currently working on two manuscripts, a history of religious popular music in Kenya, as well as Music in Logooli Christianity, which traces the development of classic, social and popular music repertoire considered to be Christian among one of Kenya’s largest language groups, the Logooli of Western Kenya. http://www.music.uga.edu/faculty/Area/Musicology-Ethnomusicology/jkidula/
