Ticket Giveaway: Daymé Arocena at Pioneer Works

Daymé Arocena is returning to New York, bringing her unique blend of classical training and pan-Cuban stylistic interpretation to Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn on April 7. We’ve got a pair of tickets that you can win. To put yourself in the running, sign up for our newsletter and send an email to info@afropop.org with “Dayme Arocena” in the subject line.

It’s hard to imagine a city more central to the story of African music and the diaspora than Havana, and as artists go, Daymé gathers the city’s disparate musical threads as well as anyone.  In his review of her New York performance last January at the Highline Ballroom, Afropop’s Sebastian Bouknight noted, “Daymé and her band demonstrated the richness of the island’s musical heritage, moving through rumba, guajira and cha-cha, and navigating through a sea of rhythms with a joyful effortlessness.”

The concert is presented by Pioneer Works in association with World Music Institute. If you haven’t been to Pioneer Works before, it’s a beautiful space and a great place to see a show. We’ll try to have someone there to cover and photograph it, but there’s nothing better than seeing a show in person…except maybe seeing a show in person for free.

Good luck!
