We're super excited for this year's official New York edition of Felabration, the annual party honoring the musical and cultural legacy of the one and only Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The date of the show, Oct. 15, marks what would have been his 78th birthday.
Felabration 2016 will be held in the new location of the downtown staple Nublu. 151 Ave C will rock with the sounds of the Nikhil P. Yerawadekar and Low Mentality Afrobeat Massive, a special, expanded version of Yerawadekar's Low Mentality band featuring Amayo (Antibalas/Fu-Arkist-Ra) alongside other members of New York's own Antibalas and Akoya Afrobeat, performing classic Fela Kuti tunes, deep cuts and original music.
The young and ready Super Yamba Band will open up, and DJ Mickey Perez will be spinning his characteristically eclectic selections of dance-floor bangers.
