Ticket Giveaway: Group Doueh with Innov Gnawa
It's a family affair! The World Music Institute presents the husband and wife duo, Group Doueh, at Le Poisson Rouge on Fri. Sept. 29. Band leader Doueh hails from Dakhla in Western Sahara and performs the electric guitar-tinged traditional Sahrawi music with his wife Halima Jakani and friend Bashiri Touballi on vocals, along with the couple's sons El Waar and Hamdan respectively on synth and drums. The music is eclectic and exciting, weaving in pop sounds from the surrounding region, and major and Byzantine scales that keep you on the edge of your seat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QilzMStKJA In addition, the popular Brooklyn-based group, Innov Gnawa will be opening that evening with Moroccan Gnawa music.
