For those who haven't checked them out before, the UK based label Etoro records has- in addition to releasing great music on their own- developed a consistent (and crazy laudable) habit of featuring interesting DJ's from all over on their "Etoro Session" mixes. Past artists include Afropop favs like DJ Orion and Jumping Back Slash. Up this week is Vamanos, a leading light of the global bass scene, and one of the principle writers for the excellent Ghetto Bassquake blog/label. His contribution is Reggaeton/Dembow mix heavy on the Bam Bam riddim. It's nice to hear the style- which really doesn't get enough love on the daily- featured so heavily, and Vamanos keeps things moving nonstop. He says "This is a mix simply of some of my favorite reggaeton songs. Some are old Puerto Rican classics - I'm a big fan of Ivy Queen so she's got three songs in there. Some tracks I bought in markets in Mexico city by people like Pablito mix and the Under Style collectivo dudes who I think are making amazing music, some are Dominican Republic dem bow songs like Dame Leche and ABCD. I threw in Aidonia's Pon di Cocky because, although its not reggaeton, I love it as it has a dem bow beat showing that the latin riddims still influences JA music." Check it out here!
