Wake Up, Madagascar is Coming
We’ve been all over this for a while now, but just in case, we figured we should give you a last push to get up, leave the safety of your air-conditioning, and check out the WAKE UP MADAGASCAR tour. Except you may not actually have to if you are not in NYC.... but more details on that later. Hoping to raise consciousness (and maybe some money) for their fight against the rapid deforestation of their island home, singer and activist Razia Said and long-time Salegy star Jaojoby have put together an unbelievable tour of Malagasy musicians that is currently making its way across the US. If the good cause isn’t enough to pique your interest, the music should. Featuring the fleet-fingered guitar players, dance-inducing percussion, and sugar sweet grooves that Malagasy music is known for, these concerts will undoubtedly be fantastic. The tour lands in New York’s Le Poisson Rouge on Saturday, for a show co-sponsored by Afropop. If you come, be sure to drop by and tell us hello! And if for some bizarre reason you can’t make it, be sure to check for a LIVE STREAM right here on our website on the day of the show. Still don’t believe that it’ll be awesome? Then check out these videos. And then, you know, admit you were wrong, and make amends by buying tickets. And be sure to tell them Afropop sent you (AKA use AFROPOP as a discount code). If you want to read more about the tour, producers Banning Eyre and Sean Barlow got a chance to talk with Jaojoby and Razia.
