If you haven't heard her or heard of her, know that every Michel show is a party. Her genre-eluding music flirts with rara, Haitian Carnival music, as well as rumba that's traveled from Yoruba tradition in West Africa, to Cuba, back to West Africa by way of Congo, and back to the Caribbean. When she played in Brooklyn roughly a year ago, her fans were all too happy to match Michel's dancing step for step, and sing along, word for word.
