Despite the long lineage of her West African griot family, Sona Jobarteh is the first female kora virtuoso to break into this traditionally male-dominated practice. In this way, her music is ancient in melody and instrumentation, but also new.
Jobarteh is making her New York City debut on June 23, and Afropop and World Music Institute want you and a friend to see her play for free.
It's a quick process--sign up for our enewsletter, and then email firstname.lastname@example.org with "Sona Jobarteh Tickets" or something along those lines in the subject line. I mean, watch that video and tell me you don't want to see that!
We'll email the winner before the show, and there will be a pair of tickets waiting at the box office at Symphony Space on Manhattan's Upper West Side in their name. If you're already signed up for our e-news, we thank you: Go ahead and send the email anyway.
