North Amerian premier: "Nteregu" documentary on music of Guinea-Bissau

Afropop Worldwide is proud to co-present the North American Premiere of Nteregu by Manuel Loureiro and Roger Mor on Wednesday, May 28 at 5:30PM, as part of the 32nd New York African Film Festival (#NYAFF32), presented by African Film Festival, Inc. and BAM.

Nteregu is a lyrical and immersive documentary that explores the rich musical traditions of Guinea-Bissau—from the ancestral Tina drum and the songs of the griots to the influence of diaspora soundscapes. Through rare testimonies and stunning imagery, the film shows how music has shaped cultural identity and connected generations, with women at the heart of its evolution.

The screening will be preceded by Sita Bella, The First, a powerful short film that honors one of Africa’s pioneering female filmmakers, Thérèse Sita-Bella.
