The years were 1963 and 1964. Nelson Mandela and his co-defendants took center stage while facing the death sentence for daring to challenge South Africa’s apartied regime. United they stood and together they set into motion a series of events that would inspire generations to come. In this film, never-before-heard archival recordings alongside contemporary interviews with surviving codefendants and their families, bring to life the intensity of the brutal court proceedings from some 50 years in the past into the relevancy of today. The State Against Mandela & The Others marks the 30th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison and dedicates its run to the life and contributions Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. This was one of her final gifts before she passed in 2018.
