World Music Institute Presents - JUSTIN ADAMS and MAURO DURANTE

Justin Adams is a British guitarist, producer and composer who has worked with the likes of Sinead O’Connor, Jah Wobble, and Robert Plant, as a member of the Sensational Space Shifters. Adams has also produced luminaries such as Malian group Tinariwen, Gambia’s Juldeh Camara and Puglian ensemble CGS (Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino). His own personal projects have received critical acclaim as well. Ribbons, Adams’ solo guitar record, was cited by Songlines magazine among the top 50 albums of the past decade.

This latest collaboration with Mauro Durante, composer and bandleader of CanzoniereGrecanico Salentino, stems from a concert led by Ludovico Einaudi, at the legendary Notte de Taranta in Puglia, where the two first played together. Adams and Durante’s most recent musical effort, 2021's critically-acclaimed Still Moving, was recorded straight to tape with no overdubs. The record effortlessly weaves through love songs of southern Italy and rasping blues from North Africa and North America, which The Guardian called "A bravura performance" and NPR Music said "moves from serene minimalism to wild catharsis".

WMI is excited to present this collaborative duo as part of the Collaborations Series, that presents cross-cultural musical explorations and collaborations. The series often explores the ways in which the music of artists from one culture have influenced the music of another culture, or the music of seemingly widely varying cultures can be strikingly similar or complementary.
