Afrika Bambaataa, Gilles Peterson and Quantic at SummerStage in Central Park
Saturday, Aug. 8, was a DJ Celebration extravaganza at SummerStage in NYC's Central Park with performances by hip-hop legend Afrika Bambaataa, Gilles Peterson and Quantic. Bambaataa's set featured some crew members from the Universal Zulu Nation on the mic. The night began with an electric set by Quantic, followed by British DJ Gilles Peterson, who continued what Quantic began by spinning funk, hip-hop, soul and Afrobeat tracks. The crowd was primed and ready for Afrika Bambaataa, cheering when he took the stage, followed in tow by crew members of the Universal Zulu Nation. A touching moment in Bambaataa's set came when they gave their respects to Sean Price, the highly acclaimed Brooklyn rapper who passed away in his sleep on Aug. 8, capping off an already wonderful show. Below are some photos from the show. All photos by Atane Ofiaja.
