Afropop Premiere: New Track from Novalima

Since their formation in 2001, Lima, Peru's Novalima has become one of the world's leading Afro-Peruvian ensembles, mixing traditional rhythms with electronic and dub influences. For their newest album, Planetario (available for purchase from Wonderwheel Recordings), the band took a more international approach, recording in Bogota with members of salsa orchestra La-33, along with Spanish DJ Panko and Cuban rapper Kumar. This track, "Beto Kele," swirls with rhythmic propulsion and features a tour de force performance from the band's singer Milagros Guerrero.

Novalima is touring the U.S. this month and will be playing in Brooklyn at the Knitting Factory with Chop and Quench (The Fela! Band) on June 26. Check out the track below:
