Afropop Worldwide Debuts on Takoma Radio
Afropop Worldwide’s programming is expanding! WOWD-LP 94.3 FM, a Washington, D.C. based radio station, will soon feature Afropop’s signature hour-long segments twice a week, on Mondays at 10 a.m. and on Thursdays at 3 p.m. As a low-power radio transmitter, WOWD, also known as Takoma Radio, offers a highly localized platform for radio expression and connects with the wide range of communities within the Takoma neighborhood. Their website states, “A source of live local information presented by live local people, we will share stories and music. We will frame and inform the present by including archival sounds and stories from Historic Takoma and other local audio collections. As a community, we are established, new, urban, suburban, black, white, Latino, African, Asian, European, West Indian, rich, poor, young, old.” Following the debut of Afropop Worldwide on WOWD, Afropop’s host-extraordinaire Georges Collinet will join Takoma Radio host Marika Partridge on air to play some of his favorite tunes and to talk about his decades-long career as a radio host for Voice of America. Listeners in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, D.C. can tune in at 94.3 FM on Mon., July 25 at 11 a.m. to catch the discussion. The show will also be available via live stream through Takoma Radio’s website, iTunes or Windows Media Player.
