Afropop is proud to support the 2013 APUTUMPU Music Festival, which kicked off last night at Williamsburg’s awesome Cameo Gallery and continues tonight and tomorrow all over the ‘Berg and the East Village. The festival features music from an incredibly wide variety of genres and backgrounds, from the Electronica Party stage at Public Assembly, indie-rock at Cameo Gallery, and (our personal favorite) the World Music Stage at the renowned Joe’s Pub. The event promises to be a real blow-out, and we’re excited to support it.
Perhaps the best part of the event is that tonight’s world music show at Joe’s Pub is an all-ages event, a rarity in our community and a great opportunity to expose a younger crowd to a wide swath of artists they may not usually come into contact with. The stage will feature performances from Azania, Derrick N. Ashong and Soulfege, Denitia Odigyie, Osekre and The Lucky Bastards, and Gone Quite Mad, though for us, Osekre and The Lucky Bastards are the stand out act. Public Assembly will be the hot spot for the night, where Rubber Ross, iBeat, DJ Subset, DJ Bass Control, DJ Crash, Inky Jacks, and Heels on Fire will be getting the dance party started in the front room, and Religious Girls, Cinema Cinema, Noxious Foxes, Big Ups, MTNS, Osekre & The Lucky Bastards, Brooklyn What, KNTRLR, Laughters, What Model Citizens, The Micks, and Matt Sebastian (Wc Kids) bringing the rock and the roll to the back room. Both shows are 18 and over.
And as an extra treat, Webster Hall will be opening up their world-class studio for live performances from the indie/pop groups Computer Magic, Not Blood Paint, Cultfever, Friend Roulette, Manican Party, and Modern Rivals.
Closing ceremonies will be held at the Ran Tea House at 269 Kent, where Narkatta (DJ Set), He Met Her, The Netherlands, Speedy Ortiz, Eula, Bambara, O & TLBS, Gull, Edelweiss, A Beacon School, The Roads, and DJ Keili (between sets) will be burning the house down.
