Bilal at the Highline Ballroom Nov. 30
New Yorkers be aware: Bilal is making an appearance at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan this Wednesday, Nov. 30. The Philadelphia-born, New York-based singer is a singular presence in the contemporary soul/r&b/hip-hop scene, employing his kaleidoscopic voice in gorgeous solo work and brilliant collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Robert Glasper, Beyoncé and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc0TmmmMlZs He's had a wildly creative career that originated in the late '90s with his studies at New York's New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (where Robert Glasper was a classmate) and has included a Grammy nomination and lots of love for everything else in his discography. Bilal has a voice that soars to shocking heights and pulls at the heartstrings, flying clear and crisp at times and ragged and rough at others. His live performances are storied things (we saw him in a surprise cameo with Robert Glasper this summer) and if you're in the city this week, you'd do well to make your way to the Highline and check it out yourself. Here's the tickets and here's the details about the show.
