Celebrate Jamaican Independence Day with Five Great Ska Cuts from 1962
To celebrate Jamaica's independence day, we decided to put together five great (but maybe overlooked) tracks of Jamaican Ska from 1962, the year Jamaica became independent. Stranger Cole - "Ruff and Tuff" This playful Duke Reid produced cut features Tommy McCook backing and a harmonica solo to boot. This was one of many early successful singles to come from Stranger Cole and Duke Reid. Derrick Morgan - "Sunday Monday" While Derrick Morgan's most famous 1962 song is undoubtedly the independence day inspired "Forward March," this tune of heartbreak showcases Morgan's versatility and engaging personality as a young singer.
