Chronixx & Black Uhuru - "I Love King Selassie" Remix (King Jammy)
The title of this new track courtesy of Chronixx is a bit misleading. As much as the idea of Jamaica’s hottest roots reggae star hooking up with the legendary roots reggae trio of Black Uhuru seems like a perfect and legendary match, it is not exactly what is going on here. Instead, the track samples Black Uhuru’s 1977 single “I Love King Selassie;” a song that originally appeared on their King Jammy produced debut Love Crisis (later remixed by Sly & Robbie and reissued as Black Sounds of Freedom in 1981). It's also not entirely clear who produced this cut. From what we can tell, the single is coming out on King Jammys label. Whether or not the legendary producer actually had a hand in the production  cannot be confirmed. Despite the confusing fact that the track is not actually a real collaboration with Black Uhuru, the tune is right in line with Chronixx proven ability to produce pop-driven roots reggae. The young star's voice fits right at home with the chorus sample of Black Uhuru's 1974 single, mixing easily with the bass-heavy, live band sound that Chronixx has made signature part of his recent output. Now only if someone can get get Michael Rose and Chronixx to actually appear on a track together. Add Sly & Robbie to that mix and it seems like a fail-proof combination. Jammy can come too. The track will appear on the #Save Reggae Vol. 3 compilation via Jamaica-based digital distribution company 21st Hapilos which is due out on December 10th. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSf8Mq1IYWw
