Harlem Renaissance Video Playlist
Our show "Music of the Harlem Renaissance" explores the incredible music and history of 1920s Harlem, featuring legendary figures of blues and jazz like Mamie Smith, Duke Ellington and James P. Johnson. This video playlist puts together some classic recordings by artists featured on the program, along with vintage footage of dancers at the legendary Harlem hotspot, the Cotton Club. Check it out! (The Cotton Club was an all-white establishment, with its own complicated history. Still--we share the footage we have!)
