Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang at Tropicalia, Washington D.C.
Afropop co-presents Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang, performing this friday 11pm, at the Tropicalia Club in Washington D.C.! Janka Nabay is known as the King of bubu music, an ancient traditional music of the Temne people of Sierra Leone. He was one of the first in Sierra Leone to "update" the style with electronic sounds and Western instruments, which made his music popular locally. Since emigrating to the US in 2003, he has pioneered and shaped his style of bubu to include an indie-rock, trance-dance aesthetic. If you don't catch them in D.C., be sure to see Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang on Saturday the 29th at Celebrate Brooklyn, Prospect Park Bandshell!
