Preview: One Africa Music Fest
532x290-One-Africa-Music-2016_-30cf169fd8 The style known as Afrobeats could hardly be in a more healthy position these days. With domestic consumption on the continent and across the diaspora booming, the infectious West African pop concoction has caught the attention of a number of high-profile musicians here in North America, including Meek Mill and, most recently, Drake. Capitalizing on this increased exposure, One Africa Music Fest will be bringing some of the scene’s leading lights to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Friday, July 22. Listeners to our “Africa Now!” episode will be familiar with the Naija-heavy lineup, spearheaded on this occasion by household names Wizkid and Davido, Igbo highlife pioneer Flavour N’Abania and the Ghanaian patois-slinging, dancehall MC Stonebwoy. The festival also provides a unique chance to hear the sounds of bongo flava in a live setting, with Tanzanian vocalist Diamond Platnumz adding some East Africa into the mix. Tickets start at $50 and can be bought here. For more info, check out the Barclays Center website.
