Photo Essay: Cape Verde in Central Park
Central Park was treated to an excellent showcase of music from Cape Verde last Sunday, and Afropop was in attendance. We had wondered what it would be like to see the Cesária Évora Orchestra without Cesária, but while the internationally acclaimed Barefoot Diva is certainly irreplaceable, vocalists Jenifer Solidade and Nancy Vieira are both knock-out performers in their own right and the rest of the band is as strong as ever. Dino d'Santiago gave a soulful performance, and Mayra Andrade showed the dynamism and warmth we've come to expect from her (we caught up with her after the show to discuss her new album - check out the video here.)
