Ticket Giveaway: Mokoomba Comes to Brooklyn

There are some bands that just have to be seen live in order to totally get it. Mokoomba, from Zimbabwe, falls into that category. If you follow Afropop, you’ve seen several reports on this band, and that is because we continue to be in awe of the group. In fact, they're so special that Mokoomba will perform at our 30th Anniversary Gala on May 3 and will be inducted into the Afropop Hall of Fame!

Mokoomba blends traditional Tonga music from Victoria Falls with Zimrock, Afrobeat, ska and pop. The group has been together since 2002 as high school students, and the tightness in their sound results from that. Lead singer Mathias Muzaza is definitely a shining star in the group. His gruff, sonorous voice is full of emotion and will keep you engaged for the entire show as the rest of the band keeps you on your feet!

Before checking the group out at our gala this May, we’re offering a chance to win a pair of tickets to see them perform at BRIC on Feb. 22 along with the Mandingo Ambassadors! To enter, sign up for our newsletter and send an email to info@afropop.org with “Mokoomba 2018” in the subject line.
