Vieux Farka Touré and Tamikrest at Celebrate Brooklyn!
It was a Malian music showcase at Celebrate Brooklyn’s show at the Prospect Park Bandshell on July 16 with headliner Vieux Farka Touré and Tuareg rock band Tamikrest as the opener. Tamikrest had a hard-driving guitar and percussion-heavy sound that was warmly received by the audience. They were a fabulous opener. Ever the showman, Vieux Farka Touré came out next, and had the crowd eating out of his hand with his superlative guitar playing. Midway through his set, he brought out American vocalist, Julia Easterlin who he has collaborated with on an upcoming project called Touristes. We wrote about the project here. All in all, this was a wonderful night of music. For those who were unable to attend, here's a photo essay of the show. All photos by Atane Ofiaja.
